Wood-rush is a native perennial herb with a rhizome (elongated underground stem). The stems can be up to almost a foot tall. There are leaves along the base and stem. Flowers are on the terminal stem with each flower consisting of 5 petals. The fruit is a capsule. Wood rush is found throughout North America in fields and on the fringes of forests.
